When Is The New Nikon Mirrorless Camera Coming?

posted in: Cameras, Gear, News

At this year’s Camera & Photo Imaging Show, better known as CP+, Nikon Imaging Japan Executive Officer Kimito Uemura said in reply to a question about their mirrorless camera system plans stated: “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to bring out a mirrorless model for this year’s event. But development is underway, and we expect to bring one to market by spring next year.

It may not come as a shock, given how drastically the camera industry has grown over the last several years and the speculation running about, but you can see from the video clip below, Nikon has hinted at their upcoming mirrorless camera plans. Will it be a new mirrorless system? Will it be aimed at pro photographers? Will it be full-frame? We can’t answer this right now, but we do now know that a something new is in the works. It’s quite possible that we’lll likely see much more in the not-too-distant future.

If you want more Nikon mirrorless theories, NikonEye, who originally conducted the interview above, forecasts that the new mirrorless camera will be an entry-level full-frame model. Some think that the elusive “Z-mount” hinted in past articles will work with existing Nikon F-mount lenses. In addition, it’s rumored that it’ll have a robust 30-MP (or more) sensor with phase-detection autofocus.”

There is no further information or hints from Nikon about what this mirrorless camera could be. This is exciting news for professional and enthusiast photographers, particularly those interested in the next big mirrorless camera technology. We also expect big reports from Sony and Olympus in the possible near future.

It’s quite possible that Canon has been working along the same lines and will have something to showcase to us maybe this fall or early next year.
